Start with synthetic mail
The built-in demo has three safe messages, requires no provider account, and never sends email. Use real mailboxes only after this flow works.
Use this shared checklist to connect pilot mailboxes, add the secure MCP connection to Claude, and verify that search, live reading, drafting, and revocation behave exactly as expected.
Sign into Administration, click Create/reset demo mailbox, then add this site's /mcp URL in Claude under Settings → Connectors. Synthetic messages exercise the real authentication, authorization, search, read, thread, and draft paths.
The built-in demo has three safe messages, requires no provider account, and never sends email. Use real mailboxes only after this flow works.
Google or Microsoft OAuth activation is needed only when you are ready to test a real mailbox. It does not block the synthetic demo.
For a solo test, use the administrator login. For delegation testing, create a separate account for each additional tester.
Open the administration page with your Efficient MCP login. No Google or Microsoft login is needed for the demo.
Click Create/reset demo mailbox. It grants the signed-in administrator read + draft access automatically.
Open Assistant sign-in, select its one connection button, paste the copied MCP URL into Claude, and sign in with the assigned Efficient MCP account.
Enable the connector under Search and tools, then run the five prompts below. Real-provider OAuth can be added later.
“List my connected mailboxes, provider consent, and my granted scopes.”
Efficient MCP Demo appears with provider demo, healthy status, and two unread messages.
“Search Efficient MCP Demo for subject SUMMER-LAUNCH.”
Two synthetic messages appear with indexed metadata.
“Open the first SUMMER-LAUNCH message and then the full thread.”
The body includes DEMO-BODY-ALPHA and the thread contains two messages.
“Create a reply draft to that thread. Do not send.”
A demo-draft ID and synthetic safety notice return. No provider is called and no email is sent.
In the Assistant access matrix, change that user and mailbox to None—or use the admin MCP tool—then repeat a read or search.
The very next call is denied without confirming whether any unauthorized mailbox exists.
All five synthetic scenarios pass, the simulated draft remains unsent, and the audit log records the activity. Real-provider OAuth testing can follow separately.
The MCP URL is this site's origin plus /mcp. The synthetic demo needs only the live service and an Efficient MCP login; Google or Microsoft credentials are not required.
